BOSTON GLOBE - Colonial Tavern set for Auction
Colonial Tavern set for Auction
Kimball Tavern, a 3,883-square-foot Colonial restaurant in Haverhill that dates to the late 17th century, will be sold to the highest bidder at an auction Nov. 20.
The building, which was designed by architect Benjamin Kimball and is listed on the state's register of historic places, had been on the market for nearly a year but did not sell. City records show it is assessed at $579,000, but there has been no minimum price set, so the highest bidder will determine the tavern's market value.
To participate in the auction, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on the tavern grounds at the corner of Salem and South Main streets, interested parties must have a $10,000 bank-certified check. Those who would like to bid on the property but cannot make it to the auction can contact JJManning Auctioneers in advance.
A public open house at the tavern is scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 14, giving potential bidders an opportunity to tour the property.
